Locust found in Nepal

Locusts which have induced a heavy loss on crops in India have been found in four districts of Nepal. The state government has started internal task on how to minimize the possible destruction to be caused by the insects after swarms of Locusts were seen in Parsa, Bara, Rupandehi and Sarlahi.
A large number of locust-like insects were spotted at the Nepal Army barrack in Butwal on Saturday morning. Agricultural experts claim that the insect seen in Rupandehi is confirmed to be locust and the state government have started preparations for its control. Deepak Raj Khanal, an associate professor and entomologist at Paklihawa Agriculture Campus, Bhairahawa, said that he went for investigation after being informed by the locals.

Chief of the Agriculture Development Directorate, Province no.5, Yam Narayan Devkota, informed that the locusts have entered various areas of Rupendehi through the southern part of the district bordering India.
An emergency meeting of the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives of five states has been held on Saturday evening. Minister Aarti Poudel informed that a meeting has been held to find out how to control the destructions that may arise due to the insects found in Rupandehi. "During the study, it was confirmed that the insects seen in Rupandehi were locusts. Now, we will take all measures to control it," Poudel said.
