Krishnathumki temple, Bahundangi, Mechinagar Jhapa
Krishna Thumki Temple, Bahundangi |
Krishnathumki
is a religious and tourist destination located in the far northeast corner of
Bahundangi, the far northeast corner of Jhapa district in Nepal.
Tiring river flows to the
east of this holy shrine, which is about 18 km north of the Mahendra highway,
and Ninda river flows in about 600 meters west. The temple of Lord Shri Krishna
has been established in the top of this Thumki or hill at the height of
450 m above sea level.
This place, which was in
the common forest area had the foundation stone of Krishna Mandir from scholar
and historian Yogi Narahari Nath in the year 2000, and with the help of local
devotees, social workers, donors, etc., the financial support has come to this
site.
Located in the
northeastern region of Jhapa district, this holy site is currently being
developed and protected inside the forest area. There is a Buddhist monastery in
the middle part of the hill and the office of the Development Committee in the
post section.
Though the history of
Krishna Thumki's nomination is not found in the past, it is relevance to
Mahabharata's timeline and characters found. The historical context of the
Pandavas during their time of exile as well as in the state of occultation is
found to be a historical phenomenon. Similarly, Sattalasena Raja, Lohaasur
Daitya, Guru Dhamya etc. are also mentioned in the Mahabharata and places named
after their name are found near this holy shrine.
During that time Lohaseur
monster ruled in the east and king Sattelsen ruled in the north. The Lohseur
monster threatened Sattalsen. Lord Krishna killed the monster Lohaseur after
the king Sattelsen asked Krishna to do so.
Every year on Krishna’s
birth-day, a grand religious fair is being organized in Krishna Thumki.
It is clear to us that
the Krishna Thumki Development Committee is constantly striving for the
development and promotion of this region, which is full of beautiful beauty.
In the end, although the
people of Bahundangi have carried a lot of efforts for the development of the sacred,
religious and historical site, the lack of access to such important places has been
expected in the absence of roads. Therefore, I urge everyone to aid for the
development of this place and list it in
heritages of Nepal.
